8800GT Baby!

I'm so excited! My new graphics card came in! yay look! I ordered all new parts and am going to build my first computer by myself. Parts will be coming in all week and hopefully I can build this by Sunday night. We'll see, since the only thing I've ever done before was switch out graphics cards. How hard can it be? Easier than cooking I hope.

other important elements that I'm waiting on (for the geek in us):
ABIT Pro LGA 775 IP35ATX Intel MB
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66ghz LGA 775 Processor
500GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s HD
4GB(2x2GB) 240 Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel
a case, 700W power, floppy, vista, dvd 20x burner.

ok so I dont really know what all is important to know, but I think I covered it. Please tell me this is SL friendly.

SL friendly, you bet! Damn good card, so good in fact that in Australia at the moment you can't get these without waiting for weeks and paying well above the recommended retail price. Nice!

/me envies you! :P

When I got my new desktop, the 8800 GT (EVGA, NVIDIA chipset) wasn't released yet. So, I got the 8600 GTS which also has a great performance.

This is TOTALLY SL friendly! More than SL friendly, SL will be too slow for your 'puter. hehe

EEK! I'm worried that the SL browser won't work with Vista. Thats what I heard anyway. I just got a new 'puter too and I got it with XP. I would check with the Lindens. Hope you can work that out or I hope I'm wrong.

Finally! Well, you've certainly gotten a lot of mileage out of your GeForce3. Holy moley -- 700W PSU! Is that for the hair dryer?

Funny, my hair dryer quit working a week ago. Luckily I had one in the guest bath. I know finally, eh. I had my current computer built in 2000 or 2001 with all the best parts that were available and it has worked well til now. Still runs great, but Doom 3 looks choppy. Windlight just about kills me. COH runs perfect though.

The 8800GT is just about sold out everywhere I looked. I saw a link from Tom's Hardware and purchased it immediately. Was 309.99 but after taxes and shipping was $346.

If Vista doesn't work I will just load my XP. I was talked into Vista because support will end for XP soon, and the newer games that will use Direct X 10 will not run on XP. At least I think that is what I was told.

ana, I was going to get that card but kept procrastinating on buying the stuff. I'm glad I waited, though your card is also very good!
